About newold.games
newold.games is a curated ranking of 505 classic games, each paired with modern alternatives (1876 in total) you can actually play today.
Who makes it
I am Jorden Chamid, a developer in the Netherlands, and I build this on my own in my spare time. It started from a familiar annoyance: most of the games I grew up with will not run on anything I own any more, and working out what to play instead meant trawling forum threads from 2013. So I started writing the answers down.
There is no commercial activity here, no team and no budget. That is worth knowing when you weigh up how much to trust the list. If you want to know how the ranking is decided and where the data comes from, I have written that up in how this site is made. If something is wrong, email me at info@corbata.nl and I will fix it.
What it is not
- Not a shop. Nothing is sold here and no games are hosted here.
- Not funded. No ads, no sponsorship, no affiliate links. Every store link is a plain link and I earn nothing if you use one.
- Not exhaustive. Plenty of great classics are missing, and plenty of good alternatives have not been found yet. Signed-in members can add ones I have missed.
- Not a live price feed. Prices and availability are checked by hand and drift. Always check the store page.
What each entry tells you
- Devices - which of the 10 tracked platforms each alternative runs on: PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet, Linux, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch.
- Price - free, paid (with an indicative price in euro), or offering in-app purchases.
- Indie picks - alternatives from independent studios carry an Indie badge.
- Steam Deck - for alternatives sold on Steam, Valve's own compatibility rating (Verified, Playable, Unsupported or Untested).
- Description - why the classic mattered, and how to get back to it now.
You can browse the whole ranking, or narrow it down by category or by the platform you own.
