Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a 1999 sports game developed by Neversoft. Players skate as a roster of real professional riders across varied environments, chaining tricks, grinds, manuals and combos to hit score targets and complete objectives within timed runs.
The game nailed an accessible yet deep trick system that made stringing together massive combos endlessly satisfying, with each level hiding collectibles, secret tapes and gaps to discover. Its two-minute run structure, career progression that unlocked new stages and skaters, and a memorable punk, ska and hip-hop soundtrack made it a breakout hit that players returned to for high scores.
