Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo is a 1997 racing simulation developed by Polyphony Digital for the PlayStation. It offered a vast garage of more than a hundred licensed real-world cars that players could purchase, tune and race, progressing through license tests and championships in a career-style structure.
The game set a new standard for realism on consoles, emphasizing authentic handling, detailed vehicle modeling and a deep progression system where prize money funded upgrades and new vehicles. Its blend of accessibility and simulation depth, split between an arcade mode and the demanding Gran Turismo mode, appealed to casual and serious racing fans alike, while its replay feature let players admire their races from cinematic angles.
