POD
Also known as POD: Planet of Death
POD is a 1997 racing game developed by Ubi Soft, a futuristic combat racer that became known as a showcase for early PC 3D-acceleration hardware. It featured sleek craft racing through varied, otherworldly environments at high speed.
The game paired its fast racing with weapons, vehicle customization and a selection of tracks and craft, and it was notably bundled with early graphics hardware to demonstrate the leap in visual quality that 3D acceleration could deliver over software rendering. Its crisp, colorful presentation and support for network multiplayer helped it stand out among PC racers of the period.
POD is remembered as a technological milestone of late-1990s PC gaming, and while it belongs firmly to that era, it can still be explored by enthusiasts interested in the early days of accelerated 3D racing.
