Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

Also known as Gran Turismo 3

2001 Polyphony Digital Racing simulation Updated 25 Jul 2026

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is a 2001 racing simulation developed by Polyphony Digital, the series' debut on the PlayStation 2 and a technical showcase for the console. It offered a huge selection of licensed cars and a demanding career built around earning driving licenses, winning championships and collecting prize vehicles.

The game paired photorealistic visuals running at a smooth frame rate for its time with a driving model that balanced accessibility and realistic handling across a wide range of real and fictional tracks, along with extensive vehicle tuning options. Its polish, depth, extensive car list and presentation made it one of the best-selling and most admired racing games of its generation, moving many millions of copies.

Gran Turismo 3 helped cement the series as the benchmark for console driving simulation, and its legacy continues through later entries in the franchise that carry forward its meticulous, endlessly detailed approach to realistic racing.
