Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Also known as MGS2
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a 2001 stealth game developed by Konami under Hideo Kojima, a hugely ambitious sequel that opened with Solid Snake aboard a tanker before shifting to a large offshore decontamination facility. It became famous for its bold narrative and its unexpected swap of protagonist to the rookie agent Raiden.
The game refined the series' stealth mechanics with far more reactive guards who could call for backup, a first-person aiming mode, and richly interactive environments full of physics-driven detail, while its story delved into themes of information control, censorship, memes and the nature of reality in ways that felt strikingly prescient of the digital age.
Provocative, self-referential and deeply influential, Metal Gear Solid 2 sparked lasting discussion about storytelling and player expectation in games. It has been included in modern collections and re-releases, allowing players to revisit its inventive stealth and thought-provoking narrative.
