Bayonetta
Bayonetta is a 2009 action game developed by PlatinumGames, starring a powerful Umbra Witch who awakens with no memory and battles angelic forces while unraveling her past. Directed by Hideki Kamiya, a key creator behind Devil May Cry, it took stylish combat to flamboyant extremes.
Its combat centered on fast, elaborate combos, guns mounted on her hands and heels, and hair-based summons for devastating attacks, with a signature "Witch Time" mechanic that slowed time when players dodged at the last instant, rewarding precise, aggressive play. Battles were graded on skill, pushing players to master its systems, and outrageous set pieces pitted Bayonetta against enormous divine bosses. The over-the-top action and confident tone made it instantly distinctive.
Bayonetta is widely celebrated as one of the finest character-action games and spawned sequels that continued the series across platforms. It has been ported to multiple systems over the years, remaining a must-play for fans of the genre.
