Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid is a 1998 stealth action game developed by Konami for the PlayStation. Players take control of the operative Solid Snake, infiltrating a remote Alaskan nuclear facility to stop a terrorist group armed with a bipedal battle tank while relying on evasion and cunning rather than brute force.
The game emphasized avoiding detection over direct combat, using guards' sightlines, sound, radar and cover to progress, with tense alert states when Snake was spotted. It was celebrated for its cinematic presentation, extensive voice acting and a twist-laden story delivered through lengthy cutscenes and Codec radio conversations, along with memorable boss fights that broke the fourth wall in inventive ways.
