Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a 1993 action game developed by LucasArts for the Super Nintendo and Genesis, a top-down shooter drenched in affectionate B-movie horror parody. Players race through suburban neighborhoods, shopping malls, and haunted houses to rescue hapless victims before monsters get them.
Its arsenal was gloriously absurd, ranging from water pistols and bazookas to exploding soda cans and inflatable clowns, used against zombies, chainsaw maniacs, giant ants, killer dolls, and other creature-feature villains. Cooperative two-player action and a countdown that ended a level once the last neighbor was lost kept the tension high and the tone playful. Losing all your neighbors, rather than dying, was what actually failed a stage.
