Wipeout
Wipeout is a 1995 racing game developed by Psygnosis, a futuristic anti-gravity racer that helped define the early identity of Sony's new console. Set in a 2052 racing league, it had players pilot hovering craft along winding circuits at blistering speeds, using pickups such as missiles, mines and speed pads to outpace rivals.
The game fused sleek, minimalist design work by the Designers Republic studio with a pulsing electronic and techno soundtrack featuring artists like Leftfield and The Chemical Brothers, positioning gaming alongside dance and club culture in a way that felt strikingly modern.
