Wipeout 2097
Also known as Wipeout XL
Wipeout 2097 is a 1996 racing game developed by Psygnosis, a sequel that refined the original's futuristic anti-gravity formula into what many consider the series' high point. Known as Wipeout XL in some regions, it delivered faster, smoother racing across new circuits with a higher, more consistent frame rate.
The game improved handling, added new weapons, craft and teams, and paired the action with an acclaimed licensed electronic soundtrack featuring prominent dance artists such as The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Underworld. Its polished visuals, refined weapon balance and heightened sense of speed built on the first game's reputation and cemented the series as a style icon of the mid-1990s.
Wipeout 2097 remains a fan favorite within the franchise, and its influence endures in later anti-gravity racers and remastered collections that let modern players relive its fast, music-driven racing.
