Jazz Jackrabbit
Jazz Jackrabbit is a 1994 platformer developed by Epic MegaGames, a fast, colorful side-scroller starring a green anthropomorphic rabbit armed with a blaster. It brought speedy, run-and-gun action to the PC at a time when consoles dominated the genre, drawing frequent comparisons to Sonic the Hedgehog.
The game combined the momentum of high-speed platforming with shooting, sending Jazz across vibrant alien worlds to rescue a princess and thwart a villainous tortoise, using an arsenal of collectible weapon upgrades. Its sharp VGA graphics, smooth parallax scrolling and energetic feel made it a standout on PC and a celebrated hit of the shareware era distributed episode by episode.
Jazz Jackrabbit became a nostalgic PC classic and spawned a sequel, and it remains available through digital re-releases, giving newcomers a chance to experience one of the platform's premier mascot platformers.
