Super Mario World
Super Mario World is a 1990 platformer developed by Nintendo as a launch title for the Super Nintendo. Set in Dinosaur Land, Mario and Luigi work to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, exploring a sprawling overworld map dense with branching routes, hidden exits, and secret paths such as the Star Road and the notorious Special Zone.
The game introduced Yoshi, the dinosaur companion who can eat enemies, swallow shells for special effects, and grant Mario an extra hit, along with the cape feather that lets Mario glide, soar, and spin-attack through the air. Its huge, interconnected world of over seventy levels, the spin jump, and a wealth of secrets and alternate goal posts made it a defining showcase for the new 16-bit hardware and encouraged thorough exploration.
