Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros. 3 is a 1988 platformer developed by Nintendo for the NES, widely regarded as one of the greatest games of its era. Mario and Luigi journey across eight themed worlds presented on an overworld map dotted with levels, fortresses, and mini-games to rescue the kings of the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Peach from Bowser and his seven Koopalings.
The game vastly expanded the series with new power-ups, most famously the Super Leaf that grants a raccoon tail for flight and tail-swiping attacks, along with the frog suit, hammer suit, and Tanooki suit that turns Mario briefly to stone. Its inventive level design, hidden secrets, warp whistles, item inventory, and world-map structure with Toad houses and Hammer Bros. set a new standard for the platform genre.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is a landmark of game design, famously promoted in the film The Wizard, and has been re-released across many Nintendo platforms over the decades. It remains widely available through official Nintendo re-releases.
