Mega Man 2
Mega Man 2 is a 1988 action-platformer developed by Capcom for the NES and the entry that cemented the series' popularity. Players control the robot hero Mega Man as he battles Dr. Wily and eight Robot Masters, including Air Man, Metal Man, and Wood Man, choosing the order in which to tackle their distinctly themed stages.
The core hook is defeating each boss to gain its signature weapon, then using that power strategically against another boss vulnerable to it, creating a satisfying rock-paper-scissors loop of experimentation. This entry also added the energy tanks that let players stockpile health and support items like Item-1 for traversal, and its tight controls, memorable stage design, and an acclaimed soundtrack, particularly the Dr. Wily stage theme, made it a high point of the NES library.
Mega Man 2 is frequently cited as the best of the classic series and one of the finest games on the console. It has been re-released in numerous Capcom collections and remains widely available.
