Black & White is a 2001 god game developed by Lionhead Studios under the direction of Peter Molyneux. Players take the role of a deity ruling over villagers, shaping the world through miracles while raising a giant animal Creature that learns from its master's example.

The game's standout feature was its ambitious learning artificial intelligence, as the Creature, chosen from beasts like a cow, ape, or tiger, absorbed behaviours through a system of reward and punishment, growing kind or cruel by imitation. A gesture-based interface let players cast spells and interact with the world by drawing symbols with the mouse, and a morality system visibly altered the appearance of the land and the player's own hand to reflect benevolent or tyrannical rule.

Black & White was celebrated for its innovation and ambition even as it divided opinion over its pacing and demands. Though the series is dormant after a single sequel, it remains a landmark experiment in emergent artificial intelligence and player-driven morality.
