Dungeon Keeper
Dungeon Keeper is a 1997 strategy and god game developed by Bullfrog under Peter Molyneux. Inverting the usual fantasy premise, players take the role of an evil overlord excavating a dungeon, digging out rooms like the treasury, lair, and torture chamber, luring and managing monstrous creatures, setting traps, and repelling the heroic adventurers who invade to loot the place.
Its dark humor, inventive premise, and a "possession" mode that let players drop into the body of any creature to experience the dungeon first-hand set it apart from other strategy games. Balancing construction, creature happiness and pay, and combat, and even slapping minions to spur them on, it earned a devoted following and strong critical praise.
Dungeon Keeper's distinctive design inspired later spiritual successors that carried its dungeon-management concept forward, and the original endures as a cult favorite among strategy fans.
