Command & Conquer

1995 Westwood Studios Real-time strategy Updated 26 Jul 2026

Command & Conquer is a 1995 real-time strategy game developed by Westwood Studios. Players choose between two warring factions, the militaristic Global Defense Initiative and the shadowy Brotherhood of Nod, gathering the resource Tiberium, constructing bases and commanding armies across a globe-spanning conflict told through live-action cutscenes.

The game refined the real-time strategy formula with streamlined mouse controls, mission-based campaigns and a strong sense of style, and its full-motion video briefings featuring live actors gave the war a memorable personality. Its accessible interface, distinct faction units and support for online and modem multiplayer helped bring the genre to a wide audience, building on the foundations Westwood had laid with Dune II.

Command & Conquer became one of the most beloved strategy franchises of its era, spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs. The early games have been gathered into a remastered collection with updated visuals, keeping them playable on modern systems.
