Warlords II
Also known as Warlords 2
Warlords II is a 1993 turn-based strategy game developed by Strategic Studies Group. Set in the fantasy world of Illuria, it has players lead one of several rival factions to conquer the map by capturing cities, which produce armies, and by fielding powerful heroes who can recruit allies, find magical items, and lead stacks of units into battle.
The game refined its predecessor with larger and more varied maps, a scenario and map editor, improved computer opponents, and a wide array of unit types, from light infantry to dragons, all wrapped in an accessible turn-based structure that emphasized rapid expansion and conquest. Its balance of simplicity and depth, alongside hot-seat multiplayer that let several players share a single computer, made it a favorite of early-1990s fantasy strategy fans.
Warlords II helped shape the fantasy conquest genre, and its lineage continued through later sequels and spin-offs that expanded on its city-capturing formula.
