BurgerTime
BurgerTime is a 1982 arcade game developed by Data East in which players control chef Peter Pepper as he assembles giant hamburgers by walking across their ingredients. Stepping over buns, patties, lettuce, and toppings on suspended platforms drops each piece down toward waiting plates, and a falling ingredient can knock lower layers down with it in a satisfying cascade.
The challenge comes from enemies like Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg, who chase the chef through the maze of ladders and walkways. Peter can temporarily stun them with a limited supply of pepper, collect bonus foods for extra pepper, or crush them by dropping ingredients on top of them, which briefly rides them down and scores extra points. Trapping several enemies on one falling ingredient is the key to high scores.
BurgerTime became a beloved home port and a lasting example of the maze-chase genre. It is still available through retro compilations and emulation, and its charming premise has inspired later remakes and sequels.
