Q*bert is a 1982 arcade game developed by Gottlieb. The player guides the titular orange creature as it hops diagonally around an isometric pyramid of cubes, changing the color of each cube by landing on it while avoiding enemies like Coily the snake, Ugg, Wrong-Way, and bouncing balls, with escape discs at the edges offering a way to lure Coily to his doom.
Its distinctive isometric visuals, quirky character, and unusual diagonal joystick control made Q*bert an instant icon of the arcade era. The game's cute mascot, gibberish speech balloon, and cursing "@!#?@!" made it a pop-culture fixture with wide merchandising, from cartoons to toys.
