Dance Dance Revolution
Also known as DDR
Dance Dance Revolution is a 1998 rhythm game developed and published by Konami, and it became a global arcade phenomenon that turned players into physical performers. Participants step on a floor pad in time with on-screen arrows and music.
As arrows scroll upward to meet stationary targets, you hit the corresponding directional panels with your feet, chaining steps into increasingly demanding routines across a wide and varied song list, with difficulty tiers ranging from beginner to grueling. Its energetic, dance-based play drew crowds of onlookers to arcades, turned skilled players into local celebrities, and even attracted attention as a form of exercise. It helped popularize the rhythm genre worldwide and inspired a huge, enduring franchise and many competitors.
Home versions bundled with soft dance mats brought it into living rooms, and the series continues in arcades and on modern platforms with steadily updated music, mechanics, and modes.
