Capitalism
Capitalism is a 1995 simulation game developed by Enlight Software and designed by Trevor Chan. It casts players as an entrepreneur building a business empire, managing manufacturing, retail, importing, marketing, research, and finance within a detailed model of a competitive market economy.
The game was notable for the depth and realism of its economic simulation, tracking full supply chains from raw materials through factories to store shelves, modeling supply and demand, pricing, advertising, and stock ownership, and even earning use as a teaching aid in some business and economics courses. Players could build vertically integrated conglomerates, undercut rivals, or corner markets, with success measured by profitability and corporate value rather than combat. This comprehensiveness set it apart from lighter management titles and won it respect among fans of serious economic strategy.
Capitalism was later expanded and refined in enhanced editions and sequels, and it remains a well-regarded example of the business simulation genre for players who enjoy market strategy.
