Command & Conquer: Generals
Command & Conquer: Generals is a 2003 real-time strategy game developed by EA Pacific, a notable departure for the series that dropped its trademark live-action full-motion-video storytelling in favor of a near-future modern-warfare setting and a fully 3D engine.
Players command one of three asymmetric factions, the technologically advanced United States relying on air power and precision, a resource-rich and numerous Chinese army, or an unconventional Global Liberation Army insurgent force that improvises with cheap swarming units and terror tactics, each with distinct playstyles and powerful general's abilities unlocked through battlefield promotions and earned points. The result emphasized varied strategy and spectacular, explosive combat.
Though stylistically very different from earlier entries and initially controversial in some regions for its subject matter, it sold well and gained a dedicated following, particularly for its Zero Hour expansion and an exceptionally active, long-lived modding scene. It remains available through digital collections, letting strategy fans experience its fast-paced modern battles on current systems.
