Supreme Commander

2007 Gas Powered Games Real-time strategy Updated 25 Jul 2026

Supreme Commander is a 2007 real-time strategy game developed by Gas Powered Games under Chris Taylor, a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation built around warfare on an enormous scale across three factions.

Players begin each match with a single powerful, upgradeable Armored Command Unit and expand into vast, largely automated economies of continuously flowing mass and energy, fielding armies numbering in the hundreds that fight across huge maps ranging from infantry skirmishes to strategic bombers, nuclear missiles, and colossal experimental war machines. A standout strategic zoom lets players seamlessly pull the camera all the way back to view the entire battlefield as an interactive tactical map, and the game was notable for supporting multiple monitors and demanding the powerful hardware of its time.

Praised for its immense scale, deep economy, and satisfying command features, it became a favorite among dedicated strategy players and received an expansion and a sequel. It remains available on digital storefronts, and its ambitious design continues to influence large-scale strategy games today.
