Outlaws
Outlaws is a 1997 first-person shooter developed by LucasArts, set in a stylized version of the American Old West. Players become former Marshal James Anderson, hunting the outlaws who destroyed his family across ranches, canyons, mining towns and moving trains.
Built on an evolved version of the Dark Forces engine, it swapped sci-fi for six-shooters, dynamite and lever-action rifles, complete with a slow-motion aiming mode for precise gunslinging and reloads that had to be managed shot by shot. Its hand-drawn animated cutscenes, memorable orchestral and harmonica-driven Western score by Clint Bajakian, and strong multiplayer helped it earn a devoted following despite modest sales at launch. A Historical Missions add-on later extended its content.
Outlaws remains a beloved cult classic and one of the most distinctive shooters of its era, and it is available through digital storefronts today, letting new players experience one of the few first-person shooters ever to fully commit to a Wild West theme.
