SiN
SiN is a 1998 first-person shooter developed by Ritual Entertainment, built on the Quake II engine and released within days of the technically similar Half-Life. Players take the role of John Blade, commander of the private security force HardCorps battling a crime syndicate and its ambitious, ruthless leader Elexis Sinclaire.
The game stood out for its emphasis on storytelling, branching mission structure and reactive levels where your actions could alter later objectives, along with usable in-world computers, security cameras and destructible environments. It also featured varied objectives beyond simple shooting, such as defusing situations and pursuing suspects. Sadly, it launched with serious bugs that hurt its reputation, though a large patch and the expansion Wages of Sin improved things considerably. It later gained a cult following for its personality, ambition and sharp writing.
Today SiN is easiest to enjoy through digital storefronts, where the classic version can run smoothly on modern hardware for anyone curious about a late-1990s shooter that tried to blend cinematic action with narrative choice.
