Star Wars: Dark Forces
Star Wars: Dark Forces is a 1995 first-person shooter developed by LucasArts. Players take on the role of mercenary Kyle Katarn, working for the Rebel Alliance to uncover and stop the Empire's secret Dark Trooper project, a new line of powerful battle droids and armored stormtroopers threatening the fledgling rebellion.
Built on LucasArts' custom Jedi engine, the game advanced beyond its contemporaries with multi-level environments, the ability to look up and down, jump, crouch, and duck, and mission objectives that went beyond simply reaching the exit, sending Kyle to steal plans, sabotage facilities, and rescue allies across a series of story-driven missions. Its faithful Star Wars atmosphere, authentic weapons and enemies, and an original narrative that introduced a character who would recur across the expanded universe made it a standout licensed shooter.
Dark Forces remains available through digital storefronts, and a modern remaster later rebuilt it with updated visuals while preserving the original design for contemporary systems.
