Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a 1997 first-person shooter developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim. Based on the Acclaim Comics character, it casts the player as Turok, a Native American warrior who defends the barrier between Earth and the Lost Land, a savage realm teeming with dinosaurs, aliens, and the forces of the villainous Campaigner.
Originally a flagship title for the Nintendo 64, the game combined shooting with platforming and exploration across large, non-linear levels that hid keys and secrets, and it offered an inventive arsenal ranging from a bow and tek weapons to the notorious Cerebral Bore. It became known for its distinctive atmosphere, its use of the console's hardware to render large environments, and a much-noted draw-distance fog that masked the system's limits. These qualities helped make it a defining early 3D shooter for its platform.
A remastered version later brought Turok to modern systems with enhanced visuals and draw distance, and the series continued with sequels that expanded on its dinosaur-hunting action.
