Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is a 2000 role-playing game developed by BioWare, built on the Infinity Engine and adapting the Dungeons & Dragons rules into a sprawling fantasy epic. Continuing the first game's saga, it follows a hero grappling with a dark divine heritage across the region of Amn.
The game offered vast, richly written content, with deep companion relationships and even optional romances, branching quests, class-specific strongholds, and tactical real-time-with-pause combat that let players carefully coordinate a full party of six. Its scope, memorable character interactions, and menacing villain Jon Irenicus earned wide acclaim, while an expansion, Throne of Bhaal, later concluded the overarching story.
