The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is a 1996 role-playing game developed by Bethesda. Set in the Iliac Bay region of the continent of Tamriel, it offers an enormous open world filled with towns, dungeons and quests, where players create a custom character and pursue a sprawling main story alongside countless procedurally generated side adventures.
The game was notable for its immense, procedurally generated world of staggering scale, its deep class and character creation, and its emphasis on freedom, exploration and first-person real-time combat. Its ambitious systems, including guilds, factions, reputation, a functioning banking system, and the ability to buy houses and ships, gave players remarkable latitude to shape their own path.
Daggerfall helped establish the open-world formula that the Elder Scrolls series would later refine into more curated, hand-crafted experiences. It has been made freely available by its publisher, and community projects keep it running smoothly on modern systems.
