LocoRoco
LocoRoco is a 2006 handheld physics platformer developed by Japan Studio for the PlayStation Portable. Players guide cheerful, singing blob-like creatures through vibrant, whimsical levels not by moving them directly, but by tilting the entire game world beneath them.
Using the left and right shoulder buttons to rotate the environment, players roll the LocoRoco through obstacles, over hills and past hazards, pressing both buttons to make them jump, and can split them into many small pieces to fit through gaps or merge them back into one large blob. Its bright, flat, storybook art, simple two-button controls and an irresistibly joyful soundtrack created an upbeat, accessible mood suited to players of all ages.
LocoRoco was celebrated for its originality, charm and inventive control scheme, becoming a beloved PSP exclusive and spawning sequels and spin-offs. Its original has been remastered for later platforms, preserving its sunny, tilt-driven gameplay for new audiences.
