Rise of the Triad
Rise of the Triad is a 1994 first-person shooter developed by Apogee Software. Originally conceived as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, it follows the H.U.N.T., a team of five operatives with differing speed and stamina, sent to investigate a cult on a remote island who become trapped and must shoot their way through the fanatical Oscura Order.
Built on a heavily modified Wolfenstein 3D engine, the game leaned into over-the-top action with outlandish weapons like heat-seeking missiles and a flame wall, plus gib-heavy combat, moving platforms, jump pads, and power-ups that could grant temporary flight, invulnerability, or a berserk "Dog Mode." Its cooperative and competitive multiplayer, called Comm-Bat, and its sheer excess made it a memorable, cult-favorite entry in the early shooter boom.
A modern reboot later revived the series, and the original remains available through digital storefronts and updated re-releases for players seeking its chaotic, fast-paced action.
