Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Also known as Shinobi III, The Super Shinobi II
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is a 1993 action-platformer developed by Sega for the Genesis, continuing the exploits of the ninja Joe Musashi. Players slash and hurl shuriken through fast-paced stages that balance precise platforming with satisfying combat.
The game is admired for its fluid movement, letting Musashi dash, wall-cling, double-jump, and perform acrobatic leaps, along with varied set pieces like horseback riding and wave-surfing sequences that broke up the standard platforming. A range of ninja magic spells provided screen-clearing power for tight situations, and a dash attack let players cut through crowds while maintaining momentum.
Considered a high point of the series and a showcase for smooth Genesis action, it delivered a polished blend of speed and style that many fans rank above its arcade predecessors. The game appears in Sega compilations and on classic-game services, where its slick ninja action remains a rewarding experience for fans of the genre.
