Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is a 2001 platformer developed by Naughty Dog, a vibrant 3D adventure and the studio's first project after the Crash Bandicoot series. It follows the silent hero Jak and his wisecracking companion Daxter, who is accidentally transformed into a small ottsel creature and seeks a cure.
The game was notable for its seamless, streaming open world that loaded from one region to the next without visible loading screens or breaks, an impressive technical feat for its hardware. Bright, varied environments, collectible Power Cells and Precursor Orbs, and a mix of platforming, light combat and vehicle sections made it a polished, cohesive showcase of the genre.
Jak and Daxter launched a beloved series that grew darker and more action-oriented in its sequels, and demonstrated Naughty Dog's technical ambition. The original has been included in remastered collections that keep its colorful adventure playable on later hardware.
