Leisure Suit Larry is a 1987 comedy adventure game developed by Sierra On-Line, created by Al Lowe, and formally titled Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. Players guide the hapless, polyester-clad 40-year-old bachelor Larry Laffer around the fictional city of Lost Wages over a single night as he clumsily pursues romance through a series of comedic misadventures.
Known for its risque humor and adult themes, and famously gated behind an age-verification quiz at startup, it became a slow-burning surprise hit and a cultural touchstone despite, or because of, its cheeky content, launching a long-running franchise. Beneath the innuendo lay a genuine Sierra adventure with a text parser, a strict time and money economy, and plenty of clever, often deadly puzzles.
The original was later remade with updated graphics and a point-and-click interface, and the series has continued in various forms, keeping Larry's comedic escapades accessible to players interested in this notorious classic.
