Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant is a 1992 role-playing game developed by Sir-Tech, a deep and demanding entry in one of the genre's founding series. Players guide a party across an alien planet, racing rival factions to uncover an ancient cosmic secret and a powerful artifact.
The game combined first-person exploration of a large overworld and dungeons with turn-based combat and famously intricate character development, offering a huge array of races, classes, and skills that could be developed over an extremely long campaign. Its non-linear world, tough puzzles, and simulated rival non-player groups actively pursuing the same goals independently gave it remarkable depth and replayability. Completed parties could even be imported into the following game.
Renowned for its complexity and difficulty, it is regarded as a high point of the classic Wizardry line and influenced later hardcore RPGs, including Japanese dungeon crawlers.
