Bejeweled

Bejeweled is a 2001 match-three puzzle game developed by PopCap Games, a deceptively simple title in which players swap two adjacent gems to line up three or more of the same color. It began life as a browser and downloadable game before spreading across countless platforms, from PCs to mobile phones.

Matching gems clears them from the grid, cascading the gems above downward and often triggering satisfying chain reactions, while special gems created by larger matches added extra clearing power. Its instantly understandable rules, glittering presentation, soothing sound effects and moreish "just one more move" loop made it wildly addictive and broadly accessible to players who had never touched a video game before.

Bejeweled became a cornerstone of the casual gaming boom and helped define the match-three genre that later dominated mobile app stores and social platforms. Numerous sequels and variations followed, and the original remains a foundational, endlessly imitated puzzle classic.
