Dungeon Siege

2002 Gas Powered Games Role-playing Updated 25 Jul 2026

Dungeon Siege is a 2002 role-playing game developed by Gas Powered Games, the studio founded by former Total Annihilation designer Chris Taylor. It sends players across a continuous fantasy world, building a party of adventurers who battle hordes of enemies on a journey to stop an ancient evil threatening the Kingdom of Ehb.

The game distinguished itself with a seamless, load-free world that streamed continuously as players travelled, a notable technical feat for its time. Rather than fixed classes, characters grew in whatever skills they actually used, so a fighter who cast spells would gradually develop magical aptitude. Its party management even let recruited followers automate their combat behaviour, and a pack mule could be added to haul loot, appealing to players who wanted action without heavy micromanagement.

Dungeon Siege spawned sequels and expansions and shipped with a powerful editor that fostered a modding community. The original remains available through digital storefronts for fans of streamlined action role-playing.
