EverQuest
EverQuest is a 1999 MMORPG developed by Verant Interactive and published by Sony, and it became one of the defining early 3D online role-playing worlds. Thousands of players shared its sprawling fantasy realm of Norrath together on persistent servers.
It offered a vast, dangerous world where players chose from many races and classes, then formed groups to battle monsters, undertake long quests, and slowly gain experience through cooperative play that heavily rewarded teamwork and dedication. Its immersive 3D presentation, punishing death penalties, and deep social reliance made it enormously influential, popularizing the persistent online RPG for a mass Western audience. The sheer commitment it demanded famously earned it the nickname "EverCrack."
It received dozens of expansions over more than two decades and still runs today, having shaped nearly every MMORPG that followed and inspiring the developers who would later create the genre's biggest blockbusters.
