Fez
Fez is a 2012 puzzle-platformer developed by Polytron, the studio of designer Phil Fish. Its signature mechanic lets you rotate a seemingly 2D world through four 3D perspectives to realign platforms and reveal new paths.
The protagonist Gomez, granted a magical fez, explores a charming pixel-art world collecting cubes by shifting the camera so that flat surfaces connect in ways impossible from a single viewpoint. Beneath the gentle exploration lies a deep layer of cryptic secrets, including a fictional alphabet, number system, and codes that spawned a passionate community effort to decode them. Its clever dimensional twist, nostalgic aesthetic, and layered mysteries made it a celebrated release of the indie golden age and won it major awards.
It is available across modern PC and console platforms, and its perspective-shifting idea has echoed through many later puzzle and exploration games.
