Machinarium is a 2009 point-and-click adventure developed by Amanita Design, a Czech studio known for its hand-drawn, dialogue-free games. You control a small robot named Josef, rebuilt after being dumped in a scrapyard, who tries to save his city and rescue his sweetheart from a gang of villains.

The game unfolds entirely through visual storytelling and environmental puzzles, with charming rusty backdrops and gentle logic challenges rather than spoken words. Ideas and memories are conveyed through comic-style thought bubbles, and a built-in hint system, along with a mini-game-gated walkthrough, keeps players from getting stuck. Its inventive puzzles, warm melancholic atmosphere, and distinctive soundtrack earned it wide acclaim and several awards, helping put atmospheric, artful indie adventures back on the map.

It has been remastered and released across PC, mobile, and console platforms, and its handcrafted style continues in Amanita's later adventures.
