Metroid Fusion

Metroid Fusion is a 2002 handheld action-adventure developed by Nintendo R&D1, following bounty hunter Samus Aran aboard a research station infested by a shapeshifting parasite known as the X, after she is infected and cured using Metroid DNA. It brought the acclaimed series to the Game Boy Advance.

The game retained Metroid's exploration and ability-gated progression, with new suit upgrades unlocking previously inaccessible areas, while adopting a more guided, story-driven structure directed by a computer assistant. Its tension was heightened by recurring encounters with the SA-X, a relentless, invincible doppelganger of Samus that stalked her through the station, forcing players to hide and flee. The atmosphere of isolation and dread reinforced the series' signature mood.

Fusion was praised as a strong entry that modernized the 2D Metroid formula, and it launched alongside a remake of the original NES game. It remains available through digital re-release services and stands as an accessible, tightly designed handheld adventure.
