The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is a 2000 action-adventure developed by Nintendo EAD, a darker, more experimental follow-up to Ocarina of Time that reused and heavily reworked its predecessor's engine. It traps Link in the doomed parallel land of Termina, where a possessed moon is falling and the world will end in three days.
The game built its entire structure around a repeating three-day cycle, letting players rewind time by playing the Song of Time while retaining key items, songs and knowledge, and it emphasized transformation masks that turned Link into different beings and the intertwined daily routines of its townsfolk, each with their own scheduled lives to observe and help. Its themes of grief, dread and inevitability gave it an unusually somber, memorable tone.
Long regarded as one of the most distinctive and thematically rich entries in the series, Majora's Mask has been re-released for later hardware, allowing modern players to experience its bold, melancholy take on the Zelda formula.
