Blade Runner
Blade Runner is a 1997 adventure game developed by Westwood Studios. Set in the world of the Ridley Scott film, it casts players as Ray McCoy, a rookie blade runner investigating a case of replicants running loose in a rain-soaked, neon-lit Los Angeles, with events running parallel to those of the movie rather than retreading them.
The game was technically ambitious, using real-time voxel graphics to render its characters and environments and featuring non-linear investigation across crime scenes where McCoy gathered and analyzed clues. Its story branched based on the player's choices and interrogations, offering multiple endings, and the identities of which characters were replicants were partly randomized between playthroughs, giving the game remarkable replay value. Its faithful noir atmosphere, moral ambiguity, and cinematic presentation cemented its status as one of the era's most acclaimed adventures.
A restored and enhanced version later brought the game to modern platforms, preserving its rain-soaked atmosphere for new audiences.
