Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy XII is a 2006 JRPG developed by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2, set in the war-torn world of Ivalice and following a group of rebels, sky pirates, and displaced royalty resisting an expanding empire that has conquered their homeland.

It broke from tradition with the Active Dimension Battle system, in which combat unfolds seamlessly on the field without separate battle screens or random encounters, and introduced the Gambit system, letting players program party members' AI behaviors with prioritized conditional rules. A License Board governed character growth, while optional hunts against powerful marks, sprawling environments, and a mature political narrative gave it a distinctive feel.

Initially divisive for its hands-off automation and understated protagonist, it has grown considerably in esteem over time and is now widely respected. An enhanced Zodiac Age version has been released for modern platforms with a refined job system, faster speeds, and other quality-of-life improvements, making this ambitious entry easy to experience today.
