Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is a 1993 adventure game developed by Sierra On-Line. Written and directed by Jane Jensen, it casts players as Gabriel Knight, a New Orleans bookstore owner and struggling author who investigates a series of voodoo murders and gradually uncovers his family's inherited destiny as a Schattenjager, or shadow hunter, tasked with battling supernatural evil.
Built on Sierra's SCI engine, the game unfolds across ten in-game days, with players gathering clues, questioning characters, and solving puzzles to advance the mystery. It earned acclaim for its mature, literate storytelling, richly researched setting, and a CD voice cast that included Tim Curry as Gabriel, Mark Hamill, and Michael Dorn. The game helped elevate the adventure genre's narrative ambitions and launched a series that ran to three installments, cementing Jensen's reputation as one of the medium's finest writers.
A 20th-anniversary remake later refreshed the artwork and audio, and the original remains available through digital re-release platforms for modern PCs.
