Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a 2003 RPG developed by BioWare, set roughly four thousand years before the films and following a customizable hero who awakens amnesiac aboard a starship and is drawn into a galactic war between the Jedi and the Sith lord Darth Malak.

Built on rules derived from a d20 tabletop system, it features party-based, pausable real-time combat, deep character creation and progression across classes and Force powers, and extensive branching dialogue with meaningful light-side and dark-side choices that shape the story and the hero's abilities. Its rich companions, planet-hopping structure, memorable droids, and a celebrated mid-game plot twist gave it a story widely praised as among the best in all Star Wars media.

A landmark that proved licensed games could be genuinely deep, choice-driven RPGs, it won numerous awards and remains hugely influential on the genre. It has been re-released on modern desktop and mobile platforms and even ported to consoles, keeping this classic accessible to new generations of players.
