Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II is a 1991 fighting game developed by Capcom for arcades. Players choose from a diverse roster of eight world warriors, each with distinctive moves and special attacks, and face off in one-on-one, best-of-three bouts across international backdrops.
The game popularized the competitive fighting genre with its precise six-button layout distinguishing light, medium and heavy punches and kicks, and hidden special-move inputs, such as fireballs and dragon punches, that rewarded skill and practice. Its combo system, discovered partly by accident, added a layer of depth that competitive players would explore for years, while its varied cast and head-to-head play turned arcades into social battlegrounds and spawned numerous updated editions.
