Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 2 is a 1992 beat 'em up developed by Sega for the Genesis, widely regarded as one of the finest side-scrolling brawlers of its generation. Players roam gritty urban streets, pummeling gangs of thugs to rescue a kidnapped friend and topple a crime syndicate.
The game refined its predecessor with larger sprites, a bigger roster of playable fighters with distinct movesets and speeds, and special attacks that traded a sliver of health for a screen-clearing blow. It also added individual special moves executed with directional inputs, deepening the combat beyond simple button-mashing. A pulsing electronic dance soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro became legendary among fans.
